Regular servicing of the auto transmission is as important as servicing the engine. We only use the manufacturer’s recommended or gearbox-specific brand of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), in the right amount and in the right place, for longer life of bearings and gears with less wear. Good maintenance and periodic inspection prevent malfunctions and breakdowns.

Why the right ATF matters

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), often just called gearbox oil, cools and lubricates the gearbox and carries the hydraulic pressure that makes it shift. Different gearboxes need different fluids. We only use the manufacturer’s recommended or gearbox-specific brand of ATF, filled to the correct level, for longer life of bearings and gears with less wear.

How often to change gearbox oil in Singapore

Start with the transmission service interval in your car’s service schedule; it differs by make and gearbox. Some makers describe the fluid as “lifetime”, but heat and stop-start traffic, which are everyday conditions in Singapore, are hard on ATF. If you have bought a used car, or you don’t know when the gearbox oil was last changed, ask us to check its level and condition before deciding.

How often should the gearbox oil (ATF) be changed?

Follow the transmission service interval in your car’s service schedule; it differs by make and gearbox. Some makers call the fluid “lifetime”, but heat and stop-start driving, which are normal in Singapore, are hard on ATF. If you don’t know when it was last changed, ask us to check the fluid’s level and condition.

Which ATF do you use?

The manufacturer’s recommended ATF or the gearbox-specific brand for your transmission, filled to the correct level. Using the wrong fluid can cause harsh or slipping shifts.

What are the signs my gearbox needs attention?

A transmission check light, hesitation or refusing to go into gear, being stuck in one gear, jerking or slipping between gears, vibration at low RPM, red ATF stains under the car, or a loud noise from the gearbox. Any of these is worth a diagnostic before it gets worse.
